Voting is a right. If you want to vote, you need to prove who you are with the correct ID. There is way too many loopholes in our voter registration and needs to stop.

I personally run into a situation several years ago, where I came to vote and was told that I had already voted. I could see the record and that my wife's name was not checked off (and I knew she voted earlier in the day). I was able to get a ballot, and do not know if the mistake would not have happened if my wife had been asked for her ID, but believe this would surely have had less of a chance of happening if that were the case. But it also proves that anyone could have walked in and voted under my name.

But I have another issue. With my name, how do you know that I am a citizen in the first place. I am a naturalized citizen but cannot recall ever being asked to prove that fact. And this bothers me very significantly. I am not only being disenfranchised by people who cannot prove who they are, but under the present system, I could walk into a polling place, and get a ballot without proving who I am or that I even have the right to vote (as a citizen).
The rebuttal you refer to was full of lies, not facts. I can (and have) document every statement of fact.

It seems that many of those that have commented on this issue have chosen to attack the Messenger rather than look at the substance of the Voter ID issue itself. Minnesota has the BEST voter integrity system in the entire country, and it is indeed a model that other states should follow. The true intent of the Voter ID law (rightly vetoed by Gov. Dayton) and now through a Constitutional Amendment anticipated in the next session is to actually REDUCE the total number of people that would be able to vote in the State. For those who truly believe we are a Democratic Republic (where the people rule), we should be seeking ways to EXPAND the total number of eligible voters not reduce the number. Minnesota has NO recored of impersonation at the polls...I repeat there is NO recorded history of voter impersonation, based on county attorney surveys. Yes, some people attempted to vote because they may still have been on parole, but the fact that these people actually WANTED to vote is probably a GOOD thing and not something that subverts the integrity of the voting system. If this passes, take note that overseas military personnel might not be able to vote absentee ballots, in fact the entire absentee mechanism and same day registrations would essentially be dismantled, many seniors could be deprived the right to vote, students that move around a lot could be dis-enfranchised. The Nov 8 article by Dan Magrath in last week's Star Tribune was incendiary and full of incorrect facts. The ACLU rebuttal by Samuelson on Thursday Nov 10 states the facts correctly. Lets focus on the facts and the TRUE intent of the sponsors of the Voter ID requirements and stop villifying the messenger. More than 100,000 people (seniors, students, poor foks and the infirm) could be denied their Constitutional Righ to vote if this is implemented.

We need this protection against voter fraud, yes we do need photo ID required to vote...Acorn is back in business under another name and who knows how many other anti=American causes backed by this current administration. Hopefully the ability to get FAKE ID will at least slow down the voter fraud.
